3 Lessons From Steve Harvey On Building A Dream Body & Living A Better Life!

steve_harvey_training (Small)There’s a good ol’ saying which goes like this: In life, there are only two things which are guaranteed; death and taxes.

Well similarly, there are two things in the world of fitness which are also guaranteed: bullshit fads, and the suckers who get roped into them.

Now don’t worry, pretty much every single person who’s ever felt even a tiny bit insecure about their body has been “the sucker” at some point or another. Myself included.

Whether it’s because you bought the latest diet pill (been there), splurged on the newest pre-workout powder (done that), or ended up paying hundreds for a trainer that didn’t know jack shit (learnt my lesson), we’ve all been separated from our hard-earned cash at some point.

And you know what?

It’s totally ok. Because that’s how you learn. Personally, I just wrote off all that money as part of my education fund… paid to the University of Hard Knocks.

But learning valuable lessons shouldn’t always hit you in the pocketbooks!

Take the recent craze which took the internet by storm in the summer of 2015; the Dad Bod.

You heard about this right?

It was part of this whole “accept yourself for who you are” movement.

Women everywhere were encouraging men to give up biceps for beer bellies.

This only encouraged the inactive bros to start posting selfies, proudly showing off their slob-like appearance.

Now look, we totally get that everyone has the right to feel good about themselves. That’s all fine and dandy. But when fads like the Dad Bod end up being used as a justification for mediocrity, that’s when things become a problem.

It’s one thing to feel confident in your own skin. But that doesn’t mean you need to get comfortable.

Why? Because becoming comfortable is the most reliable way of losing at the game we call life. It shatters motivation, destroys willpower, and it has never lead to anything useful.

Think about it; companies that become comfortable stop growing, and when companies stop growing, they eventually die.

That’s why the biggest brands that you know and love are also the best innovators; they’re always changing, moving and adapting.

And Steve Harvey Understands This Better Than Most People (See The Video Below)

See what I mean?

Besides refusing to marinate in the comfort-zone, here are two other lessons you can pick up from Mr. Harvey…

Lesson #2: Don’t Let Others Dictate Your Goals

I’m not sure why that chick in the audience was so adamant on having Steve “accept” himself, but you could tell he was getting annoyed. And for good reason!

Steve knew what he wanted to accomplish, and where he was going. And he sure as hell wasn’t going to let some college chick convince him to live up to an image that she wanted.

While you or I might not have fans asking us to lower or goals and expectations, we do have other groups of people that are doing something similar.

They’re our friends, families and/or spouses.

It’s the good ol’ crab in the buck phenomenon.

If you haven’t heard about this, let me give you a brief overview: If you put a bunch of crabs in a bucket, eventually one or two will build up the courage to try and escape. They’ll grab the edge of the rim and lift themselves up.

But no crab ever escapes the bucket. Why?

Because other crabs simply cling on to the one trying to escape, and pull him back down. This phenomenon is so reliable that fisherman can leave a bucket of freshly caught crabs unattended without a lid, and not worry about them escaping due to their “crabby” nature.

steve_harvey_pissed

So if you have crabs in your life, get rid of em!

They’ll pull you down in ways you didn’t even think of. They’ll say things like…

  • “Oh please, one piece of cake won’t make you fat. Just have it. Why not live a little!”
  • “You don’t need to go on a diet! Stop starving your body… you already look great!”
  • “Why are you going to the gym so often? Don’t you have a life?!”

That’s the type of shit that the crabs of the world usually say.

Now of course, certain family members or friends will be 100% supportive of you. Be sure to nurture the relationship with these individuals… because people like that are truly rare.

Bottom Line: Don’t let people keep you from escaping that bucket. If you’re trying to do something positive, you should almost expect to find crabs that will try and pull you back down.

Lesson #3: Surround Yourself With The Right People, So Failure Is Not An Option

steve_harvey_absAs I sit here and write this, Steve Harvey currently has 2.4 million followers on Instagram.

And that’s just one platform. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that his total fan base is much larger due to YouTube, Tv, Facebook, Twitter etc.

So I’d say it was a pretty ballsy move for him to publicly announce such a lofty goal. I can’t imagine the amount of social pressure that he poured on himself (though I’m sure Steve is not only used to it, but that’s probably what drives him).

Bottom line: Steve knew that if he didn’t live up to what he said, he would’ve looked like a damn fool. Because even if 90% of his audience forgot, that still leaves a few hundred thousand people who would approach him and say, “Yo Steve! Where your abs at?”

And Steve can’t have that. Looks bad for his brand.

So how was he so damn confident? Was he hiding some kind of secret?

Nope.

His confidence was based on two simple things (if you watched the video carefully, you might have picked up on it)

A) He Has An Insane Work Ethic

This guy is everywhere. He has his own show, he hosts Family Feud, does guest appearances (ahem, Miss Universe), writes books, does movies and more. Yet in the midst of all that, he still finds time to get in his workout. Oh, and speaking of his workout, you can can bet your ass he’s not fooling around. That’s due to…

B) Hiring A Personal Trainer

You really think Steve has time to read an eBook or go through a DVD workout program? Hell no! He is smart, and he understands that time is money. This means he (most likely) hired a guy that tells him what to do, how to do it, and when. Steve has all the thinking done for him. This relieves him from guessing, contemplating or second-guessing. All Steve has to do is show up and put in the work. The rest is his trainer’s responsibility.

And that’s the power of having a coach.

If you’re busy and just need something that works, a good coach will set you free while helping you get the results you’re after.

Now I hear what you’re saying… “But Steve Harvey is a rich mofo who can afford to blow tens of thousands on a trainer that’s on-call 24/7. I can’t afford something like that!”

You’re totally right – 99.9% of the population don’t have that luxury. So what’s the next best thing?

Very good point you gave here, especially being confident and not comfortable. I really believe that we should accept who we are, the natural us, and not the one “bad food choices and laziness”, makes us. Thanks for this
